Amharic Translator is published by Geez Academy ("we", "our", or "us"). Contact: geezacademy@gmail.com
Amharic Translator translates text and photos between Amharic, English, Arabic, Swedish, and Chinese, and lets you type Amharic using Latin letters (for example, "selam" becomes แฐแแ). All features are free. Translations, photo text-reading, and phrasebook content are generated using Anthropic's Claude AI.
The app may show ads from Google AdMob. When ads are shown, Google and its partners may collect:
In regions where it's required by law (such as the EU and UK), we ask for your consent using Google's consent form. On iOS, you may be asked whether to allow tracking. If you decline, the app still works fully and you'll see non-personalized ads. Learn more at Google's partner-sites policy, and manage ad settings at adssettings.google.com.
We do not sell your data, and we don't share it beyond the service providers listed above.
Your history, favorites, and corrections stay on your device until you clear them in the app or uninstall it. We don't keep copies of your translations or photos on our server.
This app is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect data from children. Ads are limited to content suitable for general audiences.
You can clear your saved history, favorites, and corrections at any time in the app's Saved tab. Uninstalling removes all locally stored data. You can also reset or limit ad tracking in your device's privacy settings.
We may update this policy from time to time and will change the "Last updated" date above when we do.

Amharic Translator
Which languages are supported?
Amharic, English, Arabic, Swedish, and Chinese, in any combination. All of them are free.
How do I type Amharic without an Amharic keyboard?
Open the Type tab and write the way it sounds. A letter on its own has no vowel (s โ แต); add a vowel to change it: se แฐ, su แฑ, si แฒ, sa แณ, sie แด, so แถ. Special sounds: sh แฝ, ch แฝ, ny แ, zh แฅ, ts แฝ. Hard sounds: T or t' แฅ, C or ch' แญ, P or p' แต, q or k' แ
. Doubled letters are written once (addis โ แ แฒแต), and a full stop becomes แข. The full guide is in the app.
Why doesn't Amharic read aloud?
Read-aloud uses your device's built-in voices, and most phones don't include an Amharic voice yet. The other languages read aloud normally.
A photo translation says there's too much text. What should I do?
Take a closer photo of a smaller section of text. Very dense pages can produce more text than one translation can hold.
Is my data private?
See the Privacy Policy above. Your history stays on your device, and we don't sell your data.
How do I report a bug or request a feature?
Email geezacademy@gmail.com with what you were doing and what happened.
